back to the drawing boards....

ok i fucked up again. Actualy i think this run was more sucess than faliular for a change.

First off the cast came out realy good, i was very pleased.

ok so the horrible casting is now over sucess at last now time for the resing. For anyone who has never used resin (like myself) it is possibly the most toxic substance ever. With that said i decided to do all the work in my room, windows closed. No golves were used either.

starting off i had to build somthing to hold the cast upright and to support a cone i inserted in the middle to allow some space. I built a sloppy structure out of wire and mounted it in my filing cabinet. very professional i know. then i proceded to mix the resing with the catylist and dye and poured. The toxic arroma gave me a huge headache, and because it all in my room i had no where to turn. i tryed to go to sleep in my however i just seemed to toss and turn all night. I finaly decided to open a window, now im sick unforutinatly. The following days i had the biggest hedache ever, probably from frying all my brain cells. Not to mention my hands were covered in resing. Resing dose not wash off. my hands were sticky for 2 days. fourtinatly now they are just stained.

I woke up the next morning excited like a kid on christmas to see the results. to my dismay i noticed the resin level had dropped. low tide. The cone i inserted (made out of foam) had disolved. rookie mistake i guess. asssided from that the copy came out ok. It was still alittle sticky but the damage is done so its jsut a practice now anyway.

Actions
bought rubber gloves
moved operation outside of room
bought cones made out of non-resin disolvable compunt (i think)
will use more catalyst
fix the makeshift pouring station.

TRY TWO

School is over. Summer is here. Getting back to the Mrs Buttersworth project. Well needless to say i totaly messed up the first attempt. if you look at previous post you will see a cylinder that is/was my mrs butterswoth bottle. After spending hours trying to rescue her from her mercury/polyether polyols grave i decided to give up and buy another bottle on ebay. Luckily botles arnt that expencive so i bought a few, and i even got a bigger one (will make a better lamp i hope). I also bought a different casting compoud (silicone). Before encasing another beloved bottle i decided to do a test run on an objject less valuable and less big. So i did a test run on a pig bamboo vase i have. So i casted it. let it dry. remove. Sucess. Today the real deal. im excited.

PD1

just the one for now....

Menu

This was a project for my DAI 300 class to design a restrant identity. Along with the identity we had to design a menu and some other things you would get at while dining there. My Idea (which i love) is to design a self serve fully customizable restarant. It is called JTC juice tea coffee. The restraunet has a large selection of teas coffees and fruits, where you will be able to choose exactly what you want to drink. I designed: a small menu, an inforation book (about the various teas, coffees, and fruits avalible), a business card, and some sugar/honey packets. It was an graphic challange primarily. Chu loved my design. =)

casting catastrophe(s)

ok so a few weeks ago in DAI310 we had a short 1 day assignment. We had to design a snap fit peice out of modeling clay, cast it in mold maker, then cast it in resin. So form this little experement i feel like i have the power to create anything!

Well after casting in mold maker Charlie discovered the mix was bad. We scraped the project. so i realy have never casted anything and have no idea how, but i still feel like i have the power to cast anything!

So i went to the store and bought about 100 bucks worth of casting suply and decided to give her a whirl.

Im working on a little side project for some gifts. Im basicly creating a mold for a mrs buttersworth bottle i have and im going to cast abunch of them in crazy colors. Im also wireing them up and lighting them up. Im still working on the electrical work (learing as i go as well). My friends birthday is in 6 days so thats when im shooting for.

Im also casting a small KEEN logo i made out of clay for my 310 project, but that one will probably turn out pretty well.

Heres some pics i took, because i'm excited!

ill make another post in the morning if the work

Jean De Tournes

Ok so this was the final project for DAI 322. We had to write and design a small book for an "old school" designer/printer.
Mine was Jean de Tournes
This was the first research project ive ever done that wikipedia hasn't been been able to help me with... I had to go to libraries.

But any way I was pretty pleased with the out come, after all is said and done I wish I would have used some more colors (more than none). Its kinda basic but I like what i did with the grid the layout in general

Looks better printed but whateve
